Charles Smith 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon, Snipes Mountain (Washington)

(April 29, 2016) … This is one of those bottles I got 1) from the USA and 2) from a wine club called Virgin Wines – yes the Richard Branson Virgin, not the Sam Jonas Virgin … They claim you’ll always love the wines they ship – and for the most part I’ve been happy with what I have received in my mystery shipments. Charles Smith has made quite the name for himself in the Washington wine world, and in truth around North America, so I was excited to try this “west coast” cab. From the get-go there was lots of blueberry and raspberry with a touch of cinnamon; then in swept the blackberry, blueberry, cassis, vanilla, and spice. There were also herbaceous elements but the fruit raises the bar of this wine to delicious … I also found a very Washington note of coffee / mocha on the finish.
