The Opener … <\/strong><\/p>\n With the hype around Pieve this year, it felt like Nobile took a backseat. Some big-name producers took the year off because they were not ready with their Pieve offering, and so the show ran with the wines they had.<\/p>\n There still seemed to be enough, with 54 wines hitting the bottom of the glass: Annatas, Riservas, and back vintages. Top wine was made by Boscarelli, with whom I did a podcast interview, along with principals from Poliziano. So there’s some great listening out there, or coming, depending when you’re reading this.<\/p>\n Boscarelli had two of the top four wines, while Icario and Lunadoro took the other two spots. Sour fruits with some good acidity, delicate tannin structure, and a medium length finish.<\/em><\/p>\n
There is a robustness to this wine with a healthy dose of dark fruit and spice backed by acidity and anise.<\/em><\/p>\n
Dark fruit oriented, slight oxidation, but it helps in this case.<\/em><\/p>\n
