These were the wines that impressed the most, starting with the four-plus-star wines and moving to those that offer up good quality and flavour. All wines are available through Stem Wine Group &ndash; unless otherwise noted with an LCBO number.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Let&rsquo;s get to it &hellip; &nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>FOUR PLUS Stars<\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Castell D&rsquo;Or NV Cava Brut<\/strong><\/span> <em>($17.95 &#8211; #32639) <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright size-full wp-image-6855\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.michaelpinkuswinereview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Stem_Cava.jpg\" alt=\"Stem Cava\" style=\"margin-left: 7px; float: right;\" width=\"125\" height=\"136\" \/><\/em><br \/>&#8211; this 12 months on lees sparkling wine has lovely apple and pear notes with good acidity &ndash; this is pretty and worth the price (worth it at twice the price). Great value. And is available at the LCBO. A great, inexpensive bottle for your next gathering or celebration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\">Corte Aura NV Franciacorta Pas Dose<\/span><\/strong> <em>($47.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; four years on lees and 80% Chardonnay, this very dry sparkler with notes of lemon curd and jumpy acid is pretty wonderful on the palate.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>La Manufacture 2023 Forets &ndash; Chablis Premier Cru<\/strong><\/span> <em>($62.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; creamy-vanilla, white stone fruit, floral &ndash;this is pleasant and fruity with a beauty long finish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-6856\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.michaelpinkuswinereview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Stem_Red_Stake.png\" alt=\"Stem Red Stake\" style=\"margin-right: 7px; float: left;\" width=\"125\" height=\"225\" \/>Tome Wines 2020 Red Stake &ndash; Cabernet Sauvignon<\/strong><\/span> <em>($34.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; a Washinigton State Cab that is fresh and elegant with lots of fruit and super easy to drink. It has the same score as four other wines, but this was my favourite red of the show. This quality of Cab, out of Napa, would be double, if not triple, the price. Worth picking up.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><strong>FOUR Stars<\/strong><br \/><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Anno Domini 2021 Le Argille Cabernet di Cabernet<\/strong><\/span> <em>($62.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; late harvested Franc and Sauv that spends 12-18 months in concrete: this fruit forward wine has a black and red fruit core with a silky mouth feel and long finish.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Braida 2021 Montebruna Barbera d&rsquo;Asti<\/strong> <\/span><em>($46.99) <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright size-full wp-image-6857\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.michaelpinkuswinereview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Stem_Biaida.png\" alt=\"Stem Biaida\" style=\"margin-left: 7px; float: right;\" width=\"125\" height=\"139\" \/><\/em><br \/>&#8211; from 30-year-old vines; this dark, rich Barbera is full of blackberry and cassis.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Biaida 2020 Bricco dell&rsquo;Uccellone Barbera d&rsquo;Asti<\/strong><\/span> <em>($139.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; now with 66+ year old vines, this wine is big, bold and spicy; very much unlike Barbera, which is a welcome and fun change.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Ca&rsquo; del Baio 2023 Paolina Barbera D&rsquo;Alba<\/strong><\/span> <em>($23.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; fresh, fruity and easy with pleasant cherry and raspberry fruit at its core.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\"><strong>Castell D&rsquo;or NV Brut Rosat<\/strong><\/span> <em>($18.95)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; a twelve month on lees bubble: lovely cherry, raspberry with acidity that sings &#8211; easy and supple to drink.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Chateau du Val D&rsquo;Or 2020 Saint-Emilion Grand Cru<\/strong><\/span> <em>($39.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; nice richness with good balance; lots of dark fruit, anise and even a drop of vanilla.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff9900;\"><strong>Corte Aura NV Franciacorta Brut<\/strong><\/span> <em>($39.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; mostly Chardonnay with a hint (10%) of Pinot Noir and 30+ months on lees; crisp with notes of lemon, lime and punchy acidity<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignleft size-full wp-image-6858\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.michaelpinkuswinereview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Stem_Serpico.png\" alt=\"Stem Serpico\" style=\"margin-right: 7px; float: left;\" width=\"125\" height=\"184\" \/>Feudi di San Gregorio 2015 Serpico &ndash; Irpinia Aglianico<\/strong><\/span> <em>($109.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; smoky tobacco yet with juicy black fruit at the core; well-balanced wine with lots going for it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Gaja 2021 Magari<\/strong><\/span> <em>($109.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; good balance of acidity, oak and dark fruit<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Monteti 2018 Monteti Toscana<\/strong><\/span> <em>($69.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; nice and silky with smoky and black fruited notes, including black cherry and vanilla.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Precision Wine 2020 Windstorm Cabernet Sauvignon<\/strong><\/span> <em>($18.99)<\/em><br \/>&#8211; a character driven wine with concentrated dark fruit, vanilla, and cedar; a medium length acidity, pretty and pleasant.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\"><span style=\"color: #ff6600;\"><strong>Ronco del Gelso 2022 Siet Vignis Chardonnay<\/strong><\/span> <em>($36.99) <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" alignright size-full wp-image-6859\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.michaelpinkuswinereview.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Stem_Chardonnay.png\" alt=\"Stem Chardonnay\" style=\"margin-left: 7px; float: right;\" width=\"125\" height=\"143\" \/><\/em><br \/>&#8211; lovely freshness is derived from using older oak and large barrels with one year on lees.
