Vineland 2003 non-VQA Cab Sauv

(June 14, 2016) … I misidentified this wine during a podcast taping of Two Guys Talking Wine as one made from Washington grapes during a short crop season; in speaking with (winemaker at Vineland) Brian Schmidt much later I found out the grapes were actually from Bulgaria – I must have been thinking of a Willow Heights wine from the same year.

Plenty of forest floor notes here, dried but drinkable, with Port-like nuances (yet only 13% alcohol); strawberry-balsamic and black cherry fruit leather are also lying in the weeds, this wine is more of a curiosity than anything at this moment.
