(September 29, 2017) … A Friday night after our bottle of bubbles, and now we select something that interests us separately:
Lenko 2010 Chardonnay, American Oak (Ontario, Canada) … This was a disappointment to my wife, who is a Chardonnay fan to the endth degree, I like to find the threshold of how old your average bottle of Ontario Chardonnay can be, and still be tasty and drinkable – so far 6-7 years seems to be the sweet spot … this one was an utter disaster from start to sink: burnt butter / rancid butter combined with a little burnt popcorn, really hard to drink, and even harder to taste; it lacks any kind of fruit, maybe, if I’m being charitable there’s a little overly-toasted creme brulee note, but that is being kind. She moved on to something more recent … if you are interested, here is the original review of this wine.
Wakefield 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon (Australia) … Myself I went for an Aussie cab that was under screwcap and truly in its prime: Violets and floral lead off the nose with a touch of dark plum, then on the palate in sweeps black cherry, cola, more plum, and even some chocolate – brilliant.
