Taste it Again: Palatine 2004 Juliette Blanc de Blanc

(September 18, 2015) … Back in the day before every Tom, Dick and Harry winemaker was making bubbly in Niagara, there were only a few patient enough to wait the allotted time to put a bubbly on the table … Palatine was one of those wineries. This 11 year old sparkling still had nice colour, seemed light and fizzy when poured into the glass – which is a good start. The nose showed aged signs typical of Sparkling: citrus, stale bread crust and almond … The palate was not as forgiving of its years, here’s where it showed all of them: poached apple, lime and baked bread, started things off well, but on the finish is where things turned a tad funky: sour with a lengthy finish that was less than appealing, in fact it detracted from ones desire to take another sip – I took three before succumbing. Sadly it’s gone.
