Taste it Again / Lost & Found: Tale of 2 Pinot Noirs

Tonight’s Best Wine(May 9, 2015) … Brutal and beautiful, today’s wine tasting version of beauty and the beast … and in that order. We’ll start where I did, with a Lakeview Cellars 2005 Pinot Noir Reserve, I really had so much trouble with this wine from the word “go” … Leathery, oxidized, bitter, and it sadly got worse from there – there was little to no redeeming features to this wine.

With that still lingering on the palate I opened a Flat Rock 2007 Pinot Noir … in all honesty I have always liked the entry level Pinots from the Rock in hot vintages and 2007 definitely was. The wine still seems to have a freshness of fruit and some pretty good tannins, along with smoky notes, good acidity, black cherry – dried strawberry and oak spiced-craisins on the finish … Smooth, elegant and very sippable. Not sure how much longer you’ll wanna keep this, but I think you’d be okay another 2 years … But still think sooner rather than later.

The Lakeview is a Lost in the Cellar selection, while the Flat Rock’s original review can be found by clicking here
